INDvsWI series in danger as 8 members of the Indian squad infected with COVID19: Dark clouds have begun to loom over upcoming India vs West Indies ODI series as seven members of the Indian contingent have tested covid positive in Ahmedabad. According to the report of Cricbuzz, three cricketers along with four support staff and one standby player is infected with the dreaded virus on Wednesday.
The three playing members include Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Pacer Navdeep Saini, who is on standby, has also been tested covid positive in Ahmedabad ahead of the ODI series.
The three matches One Day International Series between India and West Indies is scheduled to start on February 6 in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), following the covid outbreak, roped in opener batsman Mayank Agarwal in the Indian ODI squad.
The three covid positive support staff include Massage Therapist Rajeev Kumar, T Dilip (fielding coach) and Security Liaison Officer B Lokesh.
All the infected members have been shifted to a separate floor in the same hotel in which the Indian team is staying and are undergoing their mandatory isolation period.

The entire Indian contingent announced for the ODI series against West Indies is currently in quarantine before they kickstart their preparations.
“Every member was also asked to undergo an RT-PCR test at home before embarking on their journey to Ahmedabad and the travel was undertaken only after testing negative,” the BCCI clarified.
The BCCI official informed that the cricket board is flexible with the scheduling of the series with West Indies. The series can be pushed further by a couple of days if more covid positive cases come up, but, if no more covid cases emerge, the tour will go as per the original schedule.
West Indies squad has also arrived at the Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday. The touring official confirmed that the entire squad has tested negative before their departure and after landing in Ahmedabad.
“We were all negative before we left Barbados. And all negative on our arrival tests at the airport yesterday in Ahmedabad. We are in room isolation on a separate floor to the Indian team as per the protocols,” the top-ranked official told Cricbuzz.
