Cricket Stadiums to host more than 25 per cent crowd during IPL 2022: Reports

Cricket Stadiums to host more than 25 per cent crowd during IPL 2022: Reports: The forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has received its much-needed hype as all the IPL teams gear up for their respective clashes. The tournament curtain-raiser will be played on March 26th between MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Shreyas Iyer’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Wankhede Stadium.

Interestingly, this time around, the BCCI would be allowing fans to enter the stadiums and cheer for their favourite cricketer. Earlier, it was said that only 25 per cent crowd capacity will be allowed to enter the cricket ground to watch live matches, however, with an improvement in Covid’s situation, the crowd percentage can increase significantly.

After a wait of two long years, fans would be able to witness IPL matches live from the stadiums. Owing to the harsh situations during the last two IPL seasons, the matches were conducted in the UAE with a very minimal to no crowd presence.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that as the tournament moves ahead, more spectators will be allowed to watch the matches in the IPL 2022.

“That is our understanding. Going forward the stadiums will have more fans than initial games. With Covid cases coming down by the day, we are hoping more people will be in the stands,” said an office-bearer of the BCCI as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Maharashtra government is also going to ease the restrictions for sports activities in the coming few weeks owing to a steep decline in the tally of daily covid cases in the state.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 is being staged in Maharashtra only. The three prominent grounds across Mumbai – Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium – along with Pune’s MCA International Stadium are set to host all the IPL matches.

The aforementioned stadiums will stage as many as 70 IPL matches. The total number of games played has increased following the addition of the two new IPL teams. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) were, last year, cleared to become operational from the Tata IPL 2022.
