IPL 2022: DC VS PBKS Highlights. Axar and Shaw Trash Punjab.

Here is a quick recap of the game between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. Delhi Capitals were covid-hit but still managed to trash the Punjab Kings on the field.

The game of the TATA IPL 2022 on Wednesday evening, saw the Delhi Capitals take on the Punjab Kings. The venue of the game was shifted to the Brabourne Stadium as there had been a covid outbreak in the Delhi Capitals’ dugout. Mitchell Marsh is said to have tested positive. Another foreign player also has tested positive if reports are to be believed. However, this doesn’t put the league in jeopardy as the games are going ahead as scheduled. Here is an in-depth look at how Prithvi Shaw and Kuldeep Yadav made a mockery of the Punjab Kings:

IPL 2022, DC VS PBKS, DC Playing 11:

IPL 2022, DC VS PBKS, PBKS Batting:

The toss was won by Rishabh Pant and like every other team, they opted to bowl first. The Brabourne Stadium was a relatively high-scoring ground and a run-fiasco was expected to take place. The Delhi Capitals had to make a forced change as Mitchell Marsh was ruled out due to covid.

The Punjab Kings never looked very settled with the bat. The team had come after a victory but that was not shown in their confidence. The Mayank Agarwal-led side tried to play the “slam-bang” approach of cricket but it cost them the game from ball 1! After a cracking start from Mayank and Shikhar, Shikhar fell in the third over at a score of 9. PBKS was at 33-1. The very next over saw Mayank hand out his wicket to Mustafizur. PBKS were reeling at 35-2 after a good start. They managed 47 runs in the mandatory 6-over powerplay and lost 3 wickets.

The innings from then on were on a steep downfall. The wickets kept regularly tumbling as the spinners from the DC dugout choked the batters of the Punjab Kings. The wickets fell at consecutive intervals of 54-4, 85-5,90-6, 90-7, and so on. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel made life hell for the Punjab batters. But it can also be rewarded for its poor shot selection. The only batter who could stick around was Jitesh Sharma who scored a gritty 32. The uncapped player has been mighty impressive. He has been the silver lining of the dark cloud for the Punjab Kings. After their full quota of 20 overs, PBKS managed to get 115/10.

Brief Scores:

Jitesh Sharma: 32 runs of 23 balls.

Kuldeep Yadav: 2/24.

Axar Patel: 2/10.

IPL 2022, DC VS PBKS, DC Batting Innings:

The DC batting phase looked completely different than the one for the Punjab Kings. It looked like Shaw and Warner had come out to bat on a different pitch altogether. Shaw was taking out all the anger of failing in the past few innings. KG Rabada and Arshdeep Singh were at the mercy of his attack. Vaibhav Arora, the uncapped player from Himachal too leaked runs at 15.5 runs per over.

Prithvi Shaw showed the crowd his illustrious drives and amazing cut shots. David Warner on the other hand was also feeling himself. The “pocket-size” dynamite that we know, was seen. Warner belted every bowler as Shaw did. Hence this opening combination was predicted to be one of the deadliest duos. Warner ended with 60 runs of 30 balls and carried his bat. Shaw finished with 41 of 20 balls. Rahul Chahar ended Prithvi’s carnage but by that time, it was too late.  The best moment of the match was when Kuldeep Yadav was offered the “Player of the Match” Award but he said that he would like to share it with Axar Patel.

Brief Scores:

Delhi Capitals: 119/1 (10.3) win by 9 wickets in hand.

Prithvi Shaw: 41 of 20 balls.

David Warner: 60* of 30 balls.
