Jasprit Bumrah becomes 6th Indian bowler to scalp 100 wickets in SENA Countries

Jasprit Bumrah becomes 6th Indian bowler to scalp 100 wickets in SENA Countries: Team India’s pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah has got another feather in his decorated cap as he becomes the sixth Indian bowler to pick 100 wickets in the SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia) countries.

Jasprit Bumrah, who is captaining the Indian side in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the postponed fifth test match, achieved this feat on day four of the ongoing test match against England as he bowled the English opener, Zak Crawley, breaching his defence after a solid 100+ runs opening partnership.

The division of Bumrah’s total wickets in SENA countries is as follows – England (37), Australia (32), South Africa (26) and New Zealand (6). Notably, Jasprit Bumrah reached the landmark on his 24th test match in SENA countries.

The other notable names that have scalped over 100 wickets in the SENA countries are – Anil Kumble (141), Ishant Sharma (130), Zaheer Khan (119), Mohammed Shami (119), and Kapil Dev (117).

India’s challenge to defend 119 runs on Day 5:

While the initial three days went in the visitor’s favour, the fourth day turned the tables as the hosts took control of the game. England bundled team India to a low score of 245 runs in the second innings despite getting a solid partnership between Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara.

The hosts were given a total of 378 runs to chase and the England openers were dominating enough to pounce upon the opportunity. The two openers (Zak Crawley and Alex Lees) scored 107 runs before Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah shattered Crawley’s defence and gave the initial breakthrough moments before the tea.

After tea, Bumrah bowled another peach delivery to get rid of Ollie Pope for a duck. The Indians were back in the contest following the two wickets. To make things worse for England, a horrible mixup between Joe Root and Alex Lees resulted in the wicket of the latter batter who was playing at 56.

As things looked daunting for England, former skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow entered the bull ring to get things back in control. The three quick wickets were good enough to press the opposition, however, the Root-Bairstow pair amassed 150 runs collectively to neutralise the match.

At the stumps on day 4, England were 259 runs in the loss of three wickets. The hosts require 119 more runs to seal the match and level the five-match series, while the Indians will have to pick seven wickets to win the test series.
