IPL 2023 Auction Update: Hugh Edmeades to conduct IPL 2023 Auction in Kochin: English auctioneer, Hugh Edmeades is once again set to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction as the BCCI ropes in the veteran for the event which is scheduled to be held in Kochin on 23rd December.
The Englishman was assigned the role to conduct the Tata IPL mega auction in 2022 as well, but unfortunately, he collapsed soon after he raised his hammer on the first day of the IPL 2022 mega auction. Edmeades fell off the podium during the bid for Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and was immediately attended to by the medical team.
He didn’t return for the auction on day one following the unfortunate episode as the doctors advised him to rest. However, the next day, he was once again back in the hall to end what he started a day ago. He was welcomed with huge applause and cheer and conducted the final leg of the event.
In his absence, senior sports presenter Charu Sharma continued the proceedings on both auction days until Hugh Edmeades returned to end the event.
In conversation with Sportstar, Edmeades confirmed his role in the upcoming Tata IPL 2023 Auction.
“I am thrilled to have been asked by the BCCI to conduct the 2023 IPL auction and am excited about visiting Kochi for the first time,” said Hugh Edmeades.

IPL 2023 Auction to go as per original schedule
Meanwhile, the BCCI seems to be unfazed by the franchise officials’ request to postpone the auction. As per the sources, the board is preparing to conduct the event as was stated in its original planner i.e., 23rd December.
Earlier, the IPL franchises had requested the BCCI to delay the IPL 2023 auction as the event is close to the Christmas festival and most of the teams feared losing their overseas officials.
“Auction planning entails a significant amount of logistics. Changing the date would need redoing everything,” a report published in InsideSport said.
