India vs Australia: ICC responded with strict actions to the verbal misconduct between Travis Head and Mohammed Siraj in Adelaide
India vs Australia: Indian speedster Mohammad Siraj and Australian batter Travis Head’s heated altercation during the pink-ball test at Adelaide has been the biggest buzz among cricket fans.
This incident took place when Travis Head played a breathtaking inning, thus scoring not only a century but also scoring 140 runs with a strike rate of 99.91. Siraj, while bowling against the batter, was hit for a huge six; the very next ball he bounced back with a beaming, toe-crushing yorker.
The batter, after getting dismissed, uttered something out of rage, while Siraj, too, responded, showing him off to the pavilion and pointing his finger towards the stands.
However, later Travis Head claimed to have just jokingly remarked to Siraj that he had bowled well, while Siraj ruled out Head’s statement, saying he abused him after getting out, which he felt bad about since he respects every player in the game.
As of now, the ICC has found both Travis Head and Mohammad Siraj guilty under the ICC Code of Conduct during the second test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The ICC has hence announced a 20% fine on Siraj’s match fee after he was found guilty of breaching the 2.5 rule of the ICC conduct, which explains “using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.”
The Adelaide crowd expressed immense displeasure for Mohammad Siraj's bad gesture and the way he was treated. The ICC has also found Head guilty of breaching the 2.13, which also reports “abuse of a player, support personnel, umpire, or match referee during an international match.”
Action resumes in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba in Brisbane when India again takes on the mighty Aussies in the 3rd Test on the 14th of December.
