India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to return to the top order in the next Test against Australia.

India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to return to the top order in the next Test against Australia. The third Test game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between the teams is scheduled to take place on Saturday (14th December) at the Gabba in Brisbane.

As per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that Rohit Sharma is likely to open the innings in the third Test. The captain of the team sacrificed his opening spot for KL Rahul in the second game but it saw him facing a lot of struggles in the middle order as he failed in both the innings in Adelaid.

Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test, reportedly was seen practising with the new ball in the nets ahead of the third game. The captain faced all pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep with the new ball. This provides a massive hint that he might open.

Ahead of the second Test, Rohit Sharma didn't face a new ball in the nets, but now focusing on the new ball means he will be taking his spot back. This also means that KL Rahul will be back in the middle order and will be taking the No.6 spot, the place he was originally slated to bat ahead of the series.

KL Rahul opened the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma in the opening game. The batter showed great grit and determination while opening and added 201 runs partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, which is why the captain decided that he shouldn't disturb the opening spot.

Rohit Sharma has been struggled to get going in the Tests

Rohit Sharma, of late, has struggled to get going in the Tests. He failed in the entire home season and also couldn't get going in Adelaide. Many experts have backed the skipper to go back to the top, and it will be a massive opportunity for him to silence all his critics with the bat.

Sharma, in the last 6 Tests, has scored 142 runs and is under massive pressure. The skipper would want to lead from the front and take his team to win. The Test series between India and Australia stays levelled at 1-1 and both the teams would be keen to take an early lead in the series.

India won the first Test of the series under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah. They completed a massive 295-run win at the Optus Stadium in Perth. But after that, Australia made a strong comeback and won the second game of the series by 10 wickets.
