India will once again face Australia in a semi-final clash going into the ICC Champions Trophy; this will mark Travis Head as one of the most major headaches for the Men in Blue.

India last played against Australia in a Champions Trophy knockout in the year 2000, as they maintain an undefeated streak against Aussies in the Champions Trophy, which is a rare sight for any team against the mighty Aussies in the 50-over format.

The six-time World Champions, on the other hand, have neither lost a semi-final against India in the ICC events of the 50-over format nor have they ever been defeated by India in a knockout game since their loss in the 2011 World Cup quarter-final.

Facing Australia in the 2015 semi-final, India collapsed in front of a valiant innings played by Steve Smith and then a stunning show from Aussie pacers on home soil. Next, the two teams clashed in the World Test Championship final of 2023, when Pat Cummins led the Australian side, likely dominating the Men in Blue.

Travis Head is the finest batter for Australia, dominating the Indians with 1763 runs scored across formats against this opposition in just 32 games he starred against them. This includes ICC events as well as bilateral series like the BGT or ODI series as well.

Back in 2023, when India qualified for their second consecutive ICC World Test Championship, Australia stood in their way. The Aussies were second in the WTC points table alongside table-toppers India, as Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins led their respective nations for the first time in the WTC.

Batting first, Australia put on a big total of 469 runs, where Steve Smith, alongside Travis Head, scored vital hundreds, thus pulling the game in Australia’s favour. Head scored a massive 163 runs in just 174 balls and broke the back of the Indian bowlers.

India lost the WTC to Australia since the Pat Cummins-led Australian side won by a huge 209-run margin.

Travis Head marked his arrival in the World Cup with a century against New Zealand and then kept his form to qualify for the playing 11 for the World Cup final. Travis Head rescued Australia in a low-scoring game after the Aussie top order toppled until Marnus Labuschagne stood firm on the crease alongside Head.

Head played a titular role in anchoring Australia’s chances in the World Cup final, performing stunningly on the big stage and showing his true caliber to the world. Since then, Travis Head has been unstoppable.

Head scored a magnificent hundred on his debut in an ICC final; Head’s 137 off 120 balls remains one of the greatest knocks ever played in a World Cup final. Australia clinched their 6th World Cup title, winning the match by 6 wickets, and Travis Head was the Player of the Match.

The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy will be Travis Head’s 3rd ICC knockout match against India, as he maintains a 2-on-2-century record against the opposition on the previous two occasions in an ICC knockout event.
