Vivo IPL 2021: Aakash Chopra backs Shreyas Iyer as the skipper of Delhi Capitals if IPL 2021 gets rescheduled.

Vivo IPL 2021: Cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra in his youtube video backed Shreyas Iyer for leading Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Vivo IPL 2021 if the BCCI plans to reschedule it. However, the renowned commentator stated that this case is only possible if Iyer gets fit by then.

The reins of the Delhi Capitals (DC) were handed over to southpaw Rishabh Pant after Iyer was ruled out of the entire IPL 2021 due to a shoulder injury that he picked up during the India-England series. Pant has enjoyed the role hitherto with six wins in the eight games.

Chopra indicated that as the tournament was earlier suspended midway and there are speculations that it can be rescheduled somewhere else, so it is under the rules if Iyer comes in and leads his side once again. Also, Delhi Capitals (DC) hasn’t announced any replacement for the cricketer.

The 43-years old said that Shreyas Iyer should be reinstated as the skipper for the remainder of the series as soon as he gets fit to play. He should come at number 3 for his side.

The Mumbai based batsman took his side Delhi Capitals (DC) to their first ever IPL final last year in UAE.

“Hundred percent man. There is no doubt it. Fit and available, Shreyas Iyer walks in as a captain, bats at No.3. Rules are definitely not like that once you are ruled out, you cannot come back. When fit and available, come back and play,” Aakash Chopra said in his YouTube video.

Delhi Capitals (DC) will have the option to bench an overseas batsman if Iyer comes in at number 3.

“Then you can play Nortje alongside Rabada, Shimron Hetmyer, Marcus Stoinis. Suddenly the Delhi team, which is already very strong and is at No.1 at the moment, will become even more strong,” the former opener elucidated.

Shreyas Iyer was earlier seen sweating out in his home with a mild workout and strengthening programme. He underwent surgery last month and is recovering really fast. Iyer shared a video on his social media handles of him doing his strengthening training that won fans heart.
