AB de Villiers returns to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2022? Head coach Sanjay Bangar drops hint.

IPL 2022: South African stylish stumper-batsman AB de Villiers recently drew curtains to his phenomenal cricketing career. The “Superman”, as fans like to call him, on 19th November wrote a social media post to inform the world about his retirement from all forms of cricket.

He wrote, “It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket.” De Villiers had already retired from international cricket back in May 2018 and since then he was only active in franchise cricket.

Mr 360 bidding adieu to all forms of cricket surely was a heartbreaking moment for millions of his fans all across the world, however, head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Sanjay Bangar, has dropped hints on de Villiers association with the franchise.

Retired Players would be interested in extending their association with franchises:

During the ongoing second test match between India and New Zealand, Sanjay, who is in the commentary panel, said that the retired players would be interested in continuing their association with the franchises.

Bangar further said that it would be good for the franchise and for the players if AB de Villiers returns to RCB as a batting coach or consultant.

The hint on AB de Villiers return to the RCB came after former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra inquired about the need for a special batting coach when someone like Rahul Dravid is present in a coaching department.

“So the head coach doesn’t have much time and the batting coach especially works on the shortcomings of the players in batting. Hence, every team needs a batting coach apart from the head coach,” said Sanjay Bangar in response to Chopra’s query.

AB de Villiers association with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has been a delight to watch. RCB acquired the services of de Villiers back in 2011 following his three year’s association with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and the franchise hasn’t released him.

In his 170 IPL innings, de Villiers has mustered over 5,000 runs at an average of 39.71 and muscled the bowlers at an alarming strike rate of 151.69. He has also bagged 25 Player of the Match award in the Indian Premier League (IPL) career.

It would be a delight for the fans, a moment of joy once again, if Bangalore ropes in “Mr 360” in a coaching role for the next couple of seasons.
