AFG vs NZ: Williamson, who needs only 72 runs to be New Zealand’s highest-ever run-getter, has been the best among Fab4 for Kiwi red ball skipper Tim Southee

AFG vs NZ: New Zealand maestro and star batter Kane Williamson has been lauded with praise from present Kiwi skipper Tim Southee. Williamson has even been seen as the captain of the national side as well as the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, whom he led to an IPL final.

Kane Williamson is considered one of New Zealand’s most successful captains, as he became the first-ever captain for the Kiwis who broke the jinx of New Zealand’s semi-final exit and took them to the final of the World Cup 2019 after 2015, where they faced England.

Though New Zealand’s loss was considered both unfortunate and controversial, this was their best-ever performance in an ICC event. The next success for New Zealand came in the 2021 T20 World Cup, where they emerged as finalists again, this time around Australia defeated them to win the first-ever T20 World Cup final.

Williamson has been their long-standing best performer across all three formats, though it has been injuries that have ruled him out of cricket several times. However, despite his hampered form due to injuries, Willaimson emerged as the highest run- scorer for New Zealand in the longest format of the game, as he surpassed Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming by a huge margin.

Considered one of the finest among the Fab 4, alongside Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Virat Kohli, he has performed presumably well for New Zealand. Tim Southee has chosen Williamson to be the best batter among the Fab4, and his form doesn’t let many argue with this statement.

Kane Williamson has scored 2267 runs in his last 20 Test match innings, as he averages 70.84 in the games with 11 Test hundreds. This form is undeniable of Williamson’s immense presence in the game, as he is just 72 runs behind emerging as New Zealand’s all-time highest run scorer across all three formats combined.

With the Afghanistan match scheduled to start today, though it has been delayed due to rain, Williamson has the chance to go past Kiwi legend Ross Taylor in the list of the nation’s highest-ever run-getter, with all formats combined.
