After getting T20I captaincy, Rohit Sharma likely to get elevated to Test captaincy as well.
Team India?s batting mainstay Rohit Sharma, who is likely to assume the leader?s role for the shortest format, is also expected to take up the charge of the longest format of cricket during the New Zealand tour. Times of India recently reported Indian team to undergo flurry changes in the dynamics of the side.
As per their reports Rohit Sharma, after getting an upliftment in the T20I team, is certain to get captain?s role in the test format as well. Virat Kohli is learnt to get rest for the T20I series against New Zealand and for the first test.
Sharma will lead India in the first test against New Zealand and Ajinkya Rahane will remain as the vice-captain of the test side. Rahane?s performances saw a dip in the recent test series against England owing to which the developments have taken place. Virat Kohli will take up his charge when he returns back in the second test match.
"Please do not read much into Virat resting for the initial matches. He'll be back to captain the team from the second Test. The Test team is his and he's done phenomenally well,? said sources who are tracking the development closely.

The first test between India and New Zealand is scheduled in Kanpur while the second one will be held in Mumbai. Both sides will engage in the T20I series before the test series. The three matches T20I series is slated to be held in Jaipur, Ranchi and Kolkata.
The report of TOI further claimed that KL Rahul is the guy who has been in India's topmost priority to keep the charge of T20I vice-captaincy following the promotion of Rohit Sharma. Rahul has been sensational in all three formats recently. He took back his position in the Test side recently in the England series while his prowess in T20Is is second to none.
Moreover, the BCCI is expected to take time in order to announce the fate of Virat Kohli?s ODI Captaincy. India will tour South Africa during late December 2021 and early January 2022 to play all format series, which is when the ODI captaincy roles will be discussed.
