Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy launch event for ENG vs IND series cancelled due to...

The England Cricket Team is all set to lock horns with the Indian Cricket Team in the five-match Test series. The series between the two teams will be taking place from 20th June at Headingley in Leeds and will conclude with the fifth game, scheduled to end on 4th June.

The excitement for the series is very high as, ahead of the series, the ECB decided to rename the series and call it the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to honour the modern greats. Notably, earlier, the Trophy was called the Pataudi Trophy.

The ECB was all set to organise an event for the launch of the Trophy at a special event on June 14 at Lord’s during the ongoing WTC Final 2025. However, the governing body, along with the BCCI, has now decided to scrap the event. This is due to the tragic aeroplane crash that took place in Ahmedabad.

Both the BCCI and ECB officials are deciding on a flexible new date - Sources

Speaking to Cricbuzz, a top official from the ECB said:

"Given the tragic events in India, the announcement may wait a while out of respect [for the lives lost]. Both the BCCI and ECB officials are deciding on a flexible new date.

The BCCI is still deciding on the right time for the announcement. The announcement had been kept flexible due to the tragedy.”

It is learned that the ECB invited both Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson for the event. However, with the event now getting postponed, the two greats of the game will now have to wait a bit.

Although there is no official confirmation, it is learned that the event might now take place before the start of the first Test in Leeds on June 20. The series will also mark the beginning of a new ICC World Test Championship edition for both teams.
