Another INJURY in the Australian camp! Star all-rounder all set to miss semi-final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Australia National Cricket Team has suffered yet another injury blow amid the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Opening batter Matthew Short suffered a thigh injury during the team's game against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team on Friday (28th February).
Matthew Short suffered a quad injury while fielding against Afghanistan in their last league game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The batter then was seen struggling to move but made his way out to bat while chasing the target of 274 runs in the must-win encounter.
Matthew Short played a brutal innings of 20 off 15 balls. But his struggles were visible as he failed to move well. However, his injury is much worse than expected as the all-rounder is all set to miss the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played next week.
Matthew Short missing the game will be a blow for Australia. The Steve Smith-led are already without their key players in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and now the injury to the inform batter will leave a massive void in the XI, especially with the semi-final around the corner.

Australia captain Steve Smith also provided an update about Matthew Short's injury, saying that the batter is struggling and confirmed that he won't recover in time for the semi-final. Speaking about the same after the Afghanistan game, he said:
"I think he’ll be struggling. I think we saw tonight he wasn’t moving very well. I think it’s probably going to be too quick between games for him to recover. We’ve got a few guys there to come in to fill a job."
With Matthew Short to miss the semi-final, it is expected that Jake Fraser-McGurk will be coming to the team. Australia has looked in a solid touch in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Even without key players, they have looked like a team to beat in the tournament.
Australia won their opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against England as they chased a target of over 350. After that, their game against South Africa got washed out before the Afghanistan match also got abandoned.
