Argentina international, 21-year-old Facundo Farias ruled out of the entire MLS 2024 season due to injury. The Inter-Miami midfielder suffered an ACL injury during their first pre-season friendly against El Salvador on Monday. He has damaged his knee ligaments and is expected to be out for a long run.
The MLS official stated, “Farias suffered an injury to his left Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) on Friday, January 19 against the El Salvador national team at the Estadio Cuscatlan. The Argentinian will undergo surgery at Baptist Health in the coming weeks and is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season.”
Inter Miami suffers a major blow before the start of the season
The 21-year-old joined The Herons at the same time Argentine legend Lionel Messi made it into the side. Facundo Farias is considered to be an upcoming talent in the future but injuries have kept him away from the game quite a couple of times now. During his time with the Colon, he was away for the whole 2022 season due to knee ligament damage and yet again faces another.
A tackle in the friendly game against El Salvador got the Argentine injured. The 21-year-old came in as a second-half substitute in the match which ended in a scoreless draw. Now Farias will be undergoing surgery in the coming weeks.
Facundo Farias mainly plays as a winger or second forward and is a potential starter for the MLS side. With Lionel Messi and Suarez in the forward Farias was used as a supporting cast.
Farias made 95 appearances for Colon in his term from 2019-2023, netting the ball 16 times. Farias joined The Herons last summer for a reported $5.5 million. Coming from the Argentine side Colon, half a season into the MLS, Farias tallied three goals and two assists in 13 matches across all competitions.
The injury is a big blow for Inter Miami, they are looking to cover up the space by showing interest in River plate midfielder Agustin Palavecino. The Florida-based franchise might be looking to loan the player as a replacement for the upcoming season.
