Asad Rauf: ICC Elite Panel Umpire No More. Dies at 66 due to Cardiac Arrest.

Asad Rauf, the umpire from the elite panel of the ICC is no more due to an unfortunate cardiac arrest. The Elite International Cricket Council umpire from Pakistan, Rauf passed away after an unfortunate cardiac arrest in Lahore, his hometown. Rauf was aged 66. Rauf took an active part in 64 Tests, 49 as on-field, 15 as the third umpire- 139 ODIs. He was one of the best umpires of his time. Here is an in-depth look at the same: 

Asad Rauf Passes at age 66 due to Cardiac Arrest: 

He was one of the most elite umpires of his time. His decisions were very immaculate. He became a part of the ICC elite panel in 2006 a year after regulating his first Test. Asad Rauf and Aleem Dar were two of the most-loved personalities on the circuit who contributed to improving the standard of Pakistani officials before the neutral umpire era. 

Asad Rauf Spot-Fixing Allegation and Suspension: 

Rauf faced one of the most unfortunate and dark times in his career when he was found in a sex scandal and a spot-fixing scandal. In February 2016, he was banned by the ICC by a five-year suspension after being found guilty of corruption. 

Rauf was Selling Shoes for a Living: 

In 2019 a video surfaced of Asad Rauf selling shoes in Lahore for a living. Rauf said that 10 years after standing in his final ODI, he lost his interest in cricket and now wants to do well in his new role. 

“This isn’t for me, this is the daily wages of my staff, I work for them. I’ve umpired in so many games all my life, there’s no one left to see now. I haven’t been in touch with the game since 2013, because once I leave something I leave it completely,” Rauf had said in a recent interview.
