Asia Cup 2022: The Asia Cup squad for India that is supposedly going to begin later this month has been announced. The squad seemingly is the strongest of all other teams and is good enough to lead India to glory in the upcoming tournament.
The squad consists of several big names including those Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and many others. However, amongst these names, there were also some people whose names were surprisingly missing from the list.
Players who’ve missed out on a berth to the Asia Cup 2022 despite delivering quality performances for the men in blue are many. It’s time for us to have a look at three of the most unfortunate players to have not been picked in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022.
1. Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan who had been a regular part of India’s T20I games in 2022 until now has been denied an opportunity to feature in India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad. The left-handed blistering batsman opened the batting on several occasions alongside Rohit Sharma.
The youngster was one of the most important players who helped the side draw the high voltage T20I series against South Africa a couple of months ago. The 25-year-old Kishan had been given enormous opportunities at the top of the order on account of the absence of regular opener KL Rahul who was out with injury.
The fact that the right-hander is now fit again and was fit for selection, meant Ishan’s being benched once again much to the surprise of everyone.
2. Shreyas Iyer
Another surprise during the announcement of the Asia Cup squad came in form of Shreyas Iyer who wasn’t named amongst the 15 members of India’s squad.
The right-handed explosive batsman who had been in terrific form for India in T20Is during the early phase of 2022 and had been delivering quality performances on regular basis wasn’t picked by the selectors ahead of such an important tournament.
Iyer’s last outing for India in T20Is was against the West Indies in their own backyard. He smashed a fantastic half-century to guide India to a fine victory in that match. Despite the 27 year old’s proving his worth for the team quite often, he has to wait even further to find a place in India’s squad ahead of events as big as Asia Cup 2022.
3. Sanju Samson
Possibly the biggest shock to several Indian fans and experts came when Sanju Samson wasn’t announced amongst the players who had made it into India’s Asia Cup squad. The 27-year-old has been regularly proving his calibre with the bat and trying to find a place in the Indian team.
However much similar to the previous occasions, the right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman once again had to face disappointment as he wasn’t named in India’s squad for the Asia Cup. Samson had delivered quality performance recently in white ball cricket for India.
He looked good in the ODI series against West Indies. Moreover, he managed to get his career-best score in T20Is for India against Ireland in the second T20I when he smashed fantastic innings of 77 off just 42 balls.
Despite all such noteworthy contributions the right-hander wasn’t included in India’s 15-man squad for the Asia Cup 2022.
