Asia Cup 2023 games for India to be held in UAE, rest of the tournament in Pakistan: Reports: In the latest flip of events, it has been reported that team India, who is unlikely to visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, will play all its Asia Cup 2023 games outside Pakistan while the rest of the tournament will progress as planned in Pakistan itself. The development was reported by the news agency PTI on Thursday.
Notably, the BCCI secretary Jay Shah had said that the Asia Cup 2023 will have to be shifted outside of Pakistan and only then would team India participate in the tournament. Due to the stained political relations between India and Pakistan, the two cricketing giants continue to keep their links alive with participation in the ICC-sponsored tournament and the continental events.
According to the news agency PTI, India will play its Asia Cup 2023 games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while the rest of the games will be held in Pakistan. In case India qualifies for the final of the Asia Cup 2023, it will be held in the UAE itself.
An emergency meeting in Bahrain was called at the behest of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi to discuss the fate of Pakistan hosting rights for Asia Cup 2023. An ACC calendar was released following the emergency meeting in which Pakistan was not named as the host of Asia Cup 2023, which will be held in September this year.
With India and Pakistan not moving an inch from their stance, the sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have told that the only possible solution to the issue will be to host the Asia Cup 2023 in two different venues. All the India games would be hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while the other games will be held in Pakistan.
Notably, this year’s Asia Cup will be held in the One Day International (ODI) format in wake of the upcoming marquee ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 which will be held in India.
