Asia Cup 2023: KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer unlikely to be picked for Asia Cup 2023 squad – Reports
With Asia Cup 2023 just around the corner, team India has been dealt with a double blow as both Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are unlikely to be picked for the tournament as they are yet the full fitness as per reports in Cricbuzz.
Shreyas Iyer suffered a back spasm during the Test series against Australia in February this year whereas KL Rahul suffered a hip-flexor injury during the IPL. Both players since then have missed competitive cricket and also underwent surgery for their respective injuries.
Both KL Rahul and Shreyas have resumed their batting in the nets and have been keeping fans updated by posting videos of their net sessions. Recently BCCI also gave an update about their fitness, stating resumed batting in the nets and are currently undergoing strength and fitness drills.
The statement further added that BCCI Medical Team is satisfied with their progress and will increase their intensity in terms of both skills and strength and conditioning in the coming days.
It was expected that the duo would make a return to the team through the T20I series against Ireland, which is marking Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback as well. But this wasn’t the case and they weren’t named in the team. As per the reports BCCI have said that rushing them into international action straight away with the Asia Cup could be a premature decision.
This means that both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be eyeing a comeback through the three-match ODI series against Australia at home. It is expected that they will regain their full fitness ahead of that and will be expected to play a huge role in the team.
