Pakistan was the primary host of the 19-day tournament Asia Cup 2023, later the tournament was organized to be played in a hybrid model due to BCCI and PCB conflicts, where Pakistan and Sri Lanka, both got the hosting opportunity for this edition of Asia Cup. The tournament kicked off with Pakistan taking on Nepal at Multan.
The six-team tournament was set to be played in two stages; Group stage and Super 4 stage. Six teams were divided into two groups (three teams each) and two teams from each group qualified for the Super 4 stage. These teams were: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh from Group A and Pakistan, and India from Group B.
Pakistan finished last in the Asia Cup 2023 Points Table and they, along with Bangladesh, were eliminated at the end of the Super 4 round and the top two teams; India and Sri Lanka qualified for yet another final.
Team India had a good tournament with just one loss out of 5 matches. India lost to Bangladesh in the last match of Super 4s with the 5 main players rested. Shubman Gill scored an excellent century against Bangladesh and is now the highest run-getter in the tournament.
