Asia Cup 2023: Former Indian captain Virat Kohli, who is known as one of the fittest cricketers to have played the game of cricket, went a level up with his fitness standards in the recent past. Kohli, recently, sent shock waves across the cricket fraternity as he announced his latest Yo-Yo Test score, which is an aerobic endurance fitness test conducted by the BCCI.

While many thought that Virat Kohli, with a new Yo-Yo score, would be the fittest Indian cricketer, it turns out a youngster surpassed Kohli in the test to be the fittest cricketer among the 15- Indian players selected for the Asia Cup 2023.

Virat, a couple of days back, posted his latest Yo-Yo test score on his social media profiles, which drew several reactions from his fans. He scored an impressive 17.2 in the Yo-Yo test held in Alur, where the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2023 is training.

Meanwhile, to surpass Kohli, young Indian opener Shubman Gill clocked 18.7 in his Yo-Yo test score. As of now, there is no one, who came close to Shubman Gill to threaten his score.

All the Indian players selected for the Asia Cup 2023 have, reportedly, achieved a threshold score of 16.5, which is an encouraging sign for the team as the players have maintained optimal levels of fitness.

Only a handful of players have been exempted from fitness tests held in Alur. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul haven’t undergone the Yo-Yo test. The aforementioned players are likely to be tested in the coming days.

“The yo-yo test being an aerobic endurance fitness test, the results could vary from when you last played and how much of workload you have gone through in the past week. Gill as of now has the highest score of 18.7. Most of the players have scored between 16.5 and 18,” a BCCI source privy to developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
