Pakistan and Sri Lanka will jointly host the Asia Cup this year, with Sri Lanka entering the competition as the reigning champions. They defeated Pakistan by 23 runs in the past year’s T20I Asia Cup final to earn their maiden T20I Cup and sixth overall. This will be the 16th edition of the Asia Cup, which will be contested in ODI format.
Although the Asia Cup is being co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka due to a hybrid model, the majority of games will be held in Sri Lanka, and the event will begin on August 30 in Pakistan. The Asia Cup 2023 will include a total of 13 games. Nine of the games will be contested in Sri Lanka, with the remaining four games taking place in Pakistan.
The six teams in the event will be grouped into two groups of three, with the worst team in each group eliminated after the first stage. Following that, the final four teams go to the Super Four stage, where they will face off against one another. On September 17, the Super Four’s top two teams will square off for the coveted trophy at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The competition will provide India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh an opportunity to be prepared for the 2023 World Cup despite a packed international schedule over the following months. The ten-team competition, which starts in early October, will be held in India.
