WI vs IND T20 2023: BCCI announces Team India Squad

The Asian Games 2023 is all set to take place in Hangzhou in September and October. Cricket as a sport was inducted into the Asian Games in 2014 but the Indian team didn’t participate in that. However, this time around India will be participating in it with both men’s as well as the women’s team. The men’s competition will begin from 28th September to 8th October in a T20 format whereas the women’s tournament will be played from 19th-28th September.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday (15th July) named the Indian squad for the upcoming Asian Games 2023. Due to a schedule clash with World Cup, the governing body named a second-string side and presented many youngsters with opportunities. 

Ruturaj Gaikwad was named the skipper of the team and along with him

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been named in the opening batter’s department. The middle order comprises Rahul Tripathi, Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh, who received his maiden call-up for the team India. 

Jitesh Sharma along with Prabhsimran too have received their maiden India call-up and will be the two-keepers in the team. Whereas Washington Sundar, Shahbaz Ahmed and Shivam Dube are the three-rounders in the team. They were rewarded for their domestic as well as IPL performances.

Ravi Bishnoi has been named as the lone leg-spinner in the Indian team for the Asian Games 2023 whereas the fast-bowling department will be boosted by Avesh Khan, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar and Shivam Mavi. The pace quartet has been going through some great form in the domestic circuit and IPL. 

Apart from the main squad, BCCI also named standby please as well. Thakur, Sai Kishore, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Sai Sudarsan will be backups for the team in the upcoming Asian Games 2023.
