The fourth match of TATA IPL 2025 saw Delhi Capitals take on Lucknow Super Giants at Vishakhapatnam. The pitch was a batting paradise, offering little assistance to the bowlers. Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl first. KL Rahul was unavailable for the match as he and his wife were blessed with a baby girl. Lucknow, with a relatively inexperienced bowling lineup, faced a well-structured Delhi Capitals side.

Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh opened the innings for Lucknow, providing an explosive start with 40 runs in the first four overs. Markram's dismissal brought Nicholas Pooran to the crease, and together, the duo set the scoreboard racing. Their rapid 87-run partnership propelled LSG to 133 in under 12 overs. Marsh played a sensational knock, scoring 72 off just 36 balls before losing his wicket to Mukesh Kumar.

However, Marsh’s departure didn’t slow Pooran down. In the very next over, he launched a brutal assault on Tristan Stubbs, smashing 28 runs with four sixes and a boundary. But Lucknow’s momentum took a hit when Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Rishabh Pant for a duck, followed by Mitchell Starc rattling Pooran’s stumps. By the 15th over, LSG were 169/4.

Pooran’s wicket triggered a collapse, with Lucknow losing five wickets in the final 26 balls. Mohit Sharma bowled a brilliant last over, but David Miller provided the perfect finish, smashing two massive sixes off the last two balls to push LSG’s total past 200.

Chasing 210 for victory, Delhi Capitals needed a solid start, but Shardul Thakur had other plans. Unsold in the mega auction, he was brought in as a replacement for the unavailable Mohsin Khan. Given the new ball, he struck twice in the very first over, putting DC in early trouble. Things got worse when they lost a third wicket in the second over, leaving Lucknow firmly in control.

With DC struggling, Axar Patel and Faf du Plessis attempted to counter-attack. However, just as they neared the end of the powerplay, du Plessis fell, and DC found themselves at 58/4.

At this stage, it seemed like the match was slipping away from Delhi, but Tristan Stubbs had other ideas. He showcased his power-hitting abilities, breathing new life into DC’s chase. Ashutosh Sharma joined the carnage, and together, they put LSG’s bowlers under pressure. Stubbs hammered two huge sixes off M Siddharth, but Siddharth had the last laugh, clean-bowling him on the very next ball.

Vipraj Nigam was the next to step up, and he completely disrupted Lucknow’s plans. Blasting 39 runs off just 15 balls, he, along with Ashutosh, kept DC’s hopes alive. However, a timely strategic timeout helped LSG regain control. Ashutosh Sharma got fifty done in just 28 balls and the job was not done yet. From over 60 runs needed from 30 balls, the equation was now just 6 needed of 6! Shabaz Ahmed got the last over and Ashutosh smacked the third ball of the over for a six and won the high-pressure game for Delhi Capitals by 1 wicket.
