Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: On Tuesday, Australia unveiled a strong lineup to defend their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title, spearheaded by Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, and a fully recovered Alyssa Healy. The return of leg-spinner Georgia Wareham from a protracted injury-related absence has further reinforced the ranks of the five-time champions, who are strong contenders for the event in South Africa next month.
It is important to note that after her injury in 2021, Wareham has played in a limited number of matches. The 23-year-old has made a comeback to the cricket field by playing for Victoria’s one-day team.
Wareham and Healy were both a member of the team that won the T20 World Cup the year before when Australia crushed India by 85 runs in front of more than 86,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to win the T20 World Cup in 2020.

Lanning takes over as captain after returning from an indeterminate months-long break late last month, putting to rest speculation that she had played her final international match. After driving Australia to a frantic streak of victories, the record-breaking 30-year-old made the decision to “focus on me” and leave the sport in August.
Australia’s World Cup defense will begin on February 12 against New Zealand, followed by group games against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. Before departing for South Africa, Australia will play a home T20 and one-day series against Pakistan.
Australia will win a third consecutive T20 World Cup if they manage to win in South Africa, following their victories in the West Indies in 2018 and at home in 2020. The same Meg Lanning who guided the Australians to victory in the previous tournaments will be in charge this time.
