Australia favourites to win ICC World Cup 2023, says R Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s one of the most celebrated red-ball cricketers, has opened up on how the outside world plays their strategies on India during the World Cup events and who he thinks is the actual favourite to lift the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Ashwin, who puts in efforts to analyse his cricket as much as he plays it, always has an interesting take on situations. He looks at things from a different perspective, which is usually much wider.
Being one of the masterminds of the game, Ashwin has spun his web around all four corners of the world and garnered accolades for his match-winning performances.
Giving his views on the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, R Ashwin believes Pat Cummins-led Australia are the actual favourites to win the showpiece event, which is scheduled to be held in India later this year.
“Going into the ODI World Cup, Australia are one of the favourites,” said R Ashwin on his Youtube Channel.
He further talked everyone through the tactics of the other countries to hold India as the favourites before all the major ICC events to put excessive pressure on the Indian players and subsequently reduce theirs.
“I know people around the world cricket will keep saying India are favourites — in fact, all the cricketers around the world will use this as a strategy and say India are favourites before every ICC event. They use this strategy to reduce the pressure on themselves and put extra pressure on us,” he added.
Ashwin reckons Australia to be the powerhouse of world cricket. Rightly so, their stats and illustrations trophy cabinet is a proof of it. Australia have won five ICC Cricket World Cup titles so far.
“India could well be one of the favourites, but Australia also are a powerhouse.”
The Australian cricket team is set to begin its ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign on October 8 against India in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
The preparations have begun for Australia, who have already announced a preliminary ODI squad. The squad will take part in the ODI series against South Africa and India and subsequently will head to the ICC World Cup 2023 tournament.
