Australia vs India: Bowling in good areas will help us retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy says, Steve Smith.
Australia vs India 4th Test Match: Australia?s star batsman Steve Smith opens up about the Brisbane surface in the 4th Test match against India. Smith said the surface has started to play some tricks and it has become comparatively difficult to bat on. Being patient and bowling in good areas can help Australia win the test series.
In the third innings of the Gaba test match, Australia put up the lead of 328 runs against India. The last session was washed out due to the rain while Indian both openers were still in the crease. India were 4/0 at stumps of Day 4.
?The match is in a good place for us, the surface has now started to do some activities today, a couple of deliveries shot up,? Steve Smith said in the virtual press conference after the Stumps of Day 4.
?So tomorrow will be the bowling day for us. We will keep bowling in good areas and let the pitch do its natural work for us. I hope we get some assistance from the surface like we saw today.?
While the Day 5 of the last test match between Australia and India is also under black clouds and the showers are very much expected.
Indians have batted really well: Steve Smith
?The Indians have obviously batted really well in the past. In Sydney, they took the charge but that was a different wicket and surface. But we will focus more on pitching the ball in good areas and being patient,? Smith added.
?I feel if the bowler goes for searching in this wicket then it won?t be much effective. It will be good for us to keep pitching the same hard length and not do much of the variations in the lengths. It is obviously pitching in good areas and letting the surface do rest of the natural variations.?
Indian bowlers bundled Australia for 294 runs in the third innings with Mohammad Siraj taking his maiden five-for and Shardul contributing with 4 scalps. Australia had a lead of 33 runs in the second innings which adds up to 327 runs.
?The final day is going to be interesting to us. The boys inside are all charged up and looked excited about the final day cricket.?
Australia?s left-arm pacer looked a little uncomfortable with his hamstring but Smith clarifies that the pacer will be good to go tomorrow morning.
