Australia vs India: I was all ready, padded up and took the injections for the relief says Ravindra Jadeja.
Australia vs India: India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja says he was all prepared to bat in the third test match. He was all ready, padded up and also took injections for the pain relief. He further said, he was mentally prepared to bat at least 10-15 overs after taking the painkiller injections in the Sydney Test which further went on to draw.
Ravindra Jadeja sustained a thumb injury during the Sydney Test when he was batting. The scans later showed that he has dislocated his thumb and will need at least six weeks of recovery time. Jadeja is ruled out of the England Test series due to the injury and head to the National Cricket Academy for the rehab program.
“I was all ready, padded up. Had taken the injection as well. I was just thinking that I would bat for 10-15 overs at least and mentally planning how the innings would pan out, which shots to play because it wasn’t possible for me to play all kinds of shots with the pain from the fracture,” he told Sports Today.
“I was actually thinking how to tackle the Aussie pacers, where would they bowl to me. How to survive these 10-15 overs was the thought in my mind at that time,” Jadeja added.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari dodged all the nasty deliveries and took the game to a memorable draw. While batting, Ashwin and Vihari also got injured. Ashwin had a stiff back while Vihari struggled with the hamstring. But the lion-hearted effort from these two produced a solid stand to face the 256 deliveries and the game ended on a draw.
I didn’t have any talks with management: Ravindra Jadeja
“I didn’t have any talks with the management weather I will go at a point when India can win or not. There were no such conversations. Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara were batting well and that time we thought that we can win the game,” he added.
“Unfortunately, one of the finest innings from Pant came to an end and the situation changed drastically since then. After that, we thought it would be better to draw the game.”
“The way Vihari and Ashwin batted was something I have never seen in past years. They both showed grit and character to save the game. It was a tremendous effort to deal with Aussie bowlers and pain at the same time. Test cricket is not every time score the runs, sometimes you have to save the game and that’s what we did.”
Ravindra Jadeja was clueless about what has happened in his thumb while batting in the first innings.
“At that point, runs were there in my mind and I was prepared for that. India needed runs and so went on to score. I didn’t realise that I have broken my finger from inside. Obviously, there was a pain but I thought it would be the impact of the ball.”
