Australia vs India: Rohit Sharma responds to his irresponsible shot off Lyon says, ‘Have no regret’.

Australia vs India 4th Test Match: Team India’s recent test vice-captain, Rohit Sharma says he has no regrets of playing the areal shots off Nathan Lyon. Sharma who looked comfortable in front of daunting Aussies bowling attack and scored an easy 44 runs before he gifted his wicket to Nathan Lyon.

Recent test deputy, Rohit Sharma attempted an areal shot off Nathan Lyon but it didn’t connect well, as a result, he had to walk back to the dressing room.

“I reached where I wanted to reach, just that I did not connect with where I wanted to hit the ball. I was in an attempt to penetrate the long-on and deep square leg fielder, I did not connect with the way the wanted to. I loved the way I batted today before joining you guys, we knew that the pitch will be good to bat on but there will be some bounce on offer,” Rohit Sharma said in the virtual press conference after the game.

I love to put bowlers under pressure: Rohit Sharma

“Once I am settled and got into the game, I realised that there was not much of the swing to the bowlers so I did some adjustments and after that, it was an unfortunate way to get out. But as I said, I won’t regret it. I love to put bowler into pressure once I am settled and that is what my role says to the team. Run scoring was difficult in this surface for both the sides but one had to put the bowler in pressure so that he can leak some runs,” he added.

Rohit Sharma explained his points and said, “In playing such areal shots there are chances of getting into mistakes but one should be ready to accept that and move on. This was a plan so I actually have no regrets about that wickets. Nathan Lyon is a smart bowler and has so much of experience, he was into his 100th test game and he bowled to me so that I could not get an elevation to connect it better.”

Sunil Gavaskar criticised Rohit Sharma for an irresponsible shot:

Former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar could not control his criticism and said, “this was a truly irresponsible shot to play is you know there are two fielders to take the guard.”

“When you are playing test cricket, you need not to hit a six, you can score runs in other ways also. He had hit a couple of good boundaries earlier and he steps out and throws his wickets when India needed him the most.”

Rain halted the play and forced early stumps on Day 02 of the Gaba test. India are still trailing 307 runs with Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara on the ground.
