Axar, Lalit Yadav help Delhi Capitals stun Mumbai Indians by 4 wickets: Delhi Capitals (DC) Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav stitched a match-winning partnership to take DC over the rope against Mumbai Indians (MI) by four wickets in the second match of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Delhi managed to score 179 runs with 10 balls to spare against Mumbai’s bowlers and successfully bagged two crucial match points.

Mumbai Indians (MI) were all the way up in this game until Axar Patel stepped into the field following the dismissal of Shardul Thakur. Patel along with young Lalit Yadav took the charge of the innings as they scored the last 75 runs off just 30 deliveries.

DC got off to a decent start as the openers managed to score 30 runs before the first dismissal of Tim Siefert. Delhi slipped down from 30/1 to 32/3 in just a matter of a couple of deliveries.

Murugan Ashwin scalped two quick wickets to put Delhi on the back foot. The spinner picked Tim Siefert and Mandeep Singh while Tymil Mills sent back skipper Rishabh Pant cheaply.

Soon opener Prithvi Shaw was also dismissed to reduce Delhi Capitals to 72/4 in 9.2 overs. To put more pressure, Mumbai bowlers managed to pick dangerous Rovman Powell for a duck.

However, it all started to go down for Mumbai when Shardul Thakur arrived and played his little cameo of 22 runs from 11 balls. However, Basil Thampi soon picked the wicket of Shardul Thakur to shatter DC hopes.

Following Shardul’s wicket, Axar Patel came to the middle and started whacking Mumbai Indians bowlers for fun. His quickfire 38 runs from 17 balls is what made the difference along with Lalit Yadav’s crafty 48 runs knock.

Valiant efforts from Axar Patel and Lalit Yadav put Delhi Capitals in the driver’s seat and won the match by four wickets. With the win, Delhi opened its account with two points.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians were asked to bat first by the Capitals. Mumbai Indians (MI) had a brilliant opening partnership.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan together scored 67 runs before the first wicket dismissal of the Mumbai skipper. Sharma was sent back by Kuldeep Yadav for 41 runs.

Ishan Kishan anchored the innings following Rohit’s wicket and played a magnificent inning of unbeaten 81 runs from 48 balls with the help of 11 fours and two sixes.

Kishan was supported by Tilak Verma (22 runs off 15 balls) and Tim David (12 runs from 8 balls) at the other end. Mumbai Indians managed to put up a total of 177 runs in the loss of five wickets after 20 overs quota.

However, against Delhi’s fine strikers, the score of 177 looked scanty. Delhi Capitals (DC) have successfully registered their first win of the Tata IPL 2022. They will next play against Gujarat Titans (GT) on 2nd April.
