Salaries of Pakistan Cricketers: Pakistan’s early exit from the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 may lead to some drastic changes in Pakistan’s T20I setup, including a reassessment of the central contracts and a reduction in the salaries of players. The reports emerging following Pakistan’s elimination indicated frustrated PCB officials mulling a thorough review of the T20I setup.

Babar Azam-led Pakistan faced an early elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 after they lost two games on the bounce to begin their run in Group A. The Men in Green lost to the USA in the Super Over before facing a drubbing against India in a low-scoring thriller on June 09.

Although they managed to bring their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign back on the winning track with the win over Canada, their fate was already decided with the two losses upfront. Pakistan’s elimination meant that it would be the USA, who would proceed to the next round of the tournament along with India from Group A.

The Pakistani fans and cricket experts were devastated by the fact that their side couldn’t make it to the Super 8s despite having the USA, Canada and Ireland in the group.

Meanwhile, some of the officials and former cricketers have advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to reassess the central contracts, which were awarded to the players when Zaka Ashraf was the PCB chief.

“There could be a reassessment of the central contracts and the players could find their salaries, and fees being cut if the Chairman decides to react strongly to the team’s recent woeful performances,” a reliable source told PTI.

Notably, the players were awarded central contracts for three years with a pay hike in 2023. The players falling under Category A were given a whopping 200 per cent salary hike while the others were given a 100 per cent hike in their salaries. Moreover, the match fee for the players saw a sizable hike.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) included Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi in the top contract which relates to $15,500 per month. Category B players get $10,000 per month while Category C and D get $6,000 and $1,700 per month respectively.
