Babar Azam's T20I career with Pakistan National Cricket Team all but over
In what has been the latest development, as per the reports in Cricket Pakistan, it is learned Babar Azam is all set to be dropped from the T20I setup of the Pakistan National Cricket Team. The batter won't be picked in the team for the upcoming New Zealand T20Is.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was recently involved in a meeting after the debacle in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It was learned that Babar Azam, along with Mohammad Rizwan, won't be considered anymore for the T20Is as the youngsters are all set to get a nod ahead.
Babar Azam's place in the ODIs is also under scanner
Not only in T20Is, the reports claimed that Babar Azam's place in the ODIs is also under scanner. It is learned that the batter's participation in the three-match series against New Zealand will be discussed by the team management and selectors, considering his poor form with the bat.
Babar Azam hasn't been able to score runs consistently and this has seen questions being raised over his place. Since the tri-series series started in Pakistan, the batter has been asked to open the innings, but the move has failed as he struggled in the entire room.
Babar Azam failed to get going in the entire tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa. It was expected that he would set the stage on fire with the bat in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But the same story unfolded for him as he couldn't make a bigger impact in the tournament.
Babar Azam slammed fifty to start the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on high. But he was criticised a lot for scoring slowly. The premier batter then had a start against India, but he failed to covert that, which saw many raising questions over his place in the ODIs and the T20Is.
In the T20Is too, Babar Azam has struggled to get going of late. He has often been criticised a lot for his poor strike rate and is expected to face a snub. The Pakistan National Cricket Team will be touring New Zealand for five T20is and three ODIs, and it will mark the beginning of a new era in Pakistan cricket.
