Babar Azam surrenders in front of Virat Kohli, admits that he is not King
Pakistan captain Babar Azam has come up with a massive statement ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He openly mentioned that he was not the king and that people should stop calling him that.
Pakistan batter Babar Azam arguably is one of the best batters to have played the game from his country. His exceptional performances for the team have been the main reasons behind the success of the team in the formats, and it is one of the main reasons why he is rated highly.
Babar Azam's heroics for Pakistan have made many fans compare him with Virat Kohli. Some even tout him as the King of Cricket, a tag which is given to Indian batters, because of what he has done for his team over the years in high-pressure games across all the formats of the game.
Please stop calling me King, I am not King, I am not there yet - Babar Azam
Babar Azam is even called King of Cricket by his Pakistan teammates. The right-hander, however, finally, has broken silence on the same. He openly said that fans should stop calling him King as he is yet to reach that level, admitting that he is not better than Virat Kohli.
Babar Azam also talked about his new role of opening, saying that it's a fresh start for him and he is trying to focus on the present and future.
“Please stop calling me King. I am not King, I am not there yet. There are new roles for me now. Whatever I have done before is in the past. Every match is a fresh challenge, and I must focus on the present and future,” Babar Azam told media.
Babar Azam is currently playing the tri-series for Pakistan against South Africa and New Zealand. After Saim Ayub got ruled out, he was asked to open the innings, and the batter so far hasn't done anything special in the series as he bagged low scores in both games.
Babar Azam also will be opening the innings for Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He would be keen to perform for the team and help them defend the title. Pakistan will play the tournament opener on 19th February against New Zealand.
