BBL 2023-24 Schedule: Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the schedule for the thirteenth edition of the Big Bash League, which is slated to begin on December 7 at Brisbane’s Gaba. The eight-team tournament will see the unfolding of a new-look schedule prepared by the Australian officials. The article will revolve around the BBL 2023-24 Schedule, Big Bash League 13 Fixtures, Venues, Teams and Squads.
As per the latest format for the BBL 2023-24, the top two clubs at the end of the 40-match league stage will get double chances to get through to the final.
Earlier, the top five teams used to proceed to the BBL knockouts, however, as per the latest rules, the top four teams will feature in round two. This time BBL will follow the IPL style of knockout fixtures whereby, the top two teams will play out the ‘Qualifier 1’ and the winner will directly make their way to the finals of the tournament. While the losing side will get a second chance in the next few days in ‘Qualifier 2’.
The second knockout game will be held between third and fourth-ranked teams in the BBL 2023-24, which will be called ‘Eliminator’. The winner of Eliminator will then play against the losing club of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2.
In another change this season, BBL will have just 10 home and away games for its eight clubs which is a reduction of 4 matches per side. Along with the reduction in the number of games per side, there will be lesser doubleheaders in the season as compared to the last one. Also, there will be no cricket on display on Christmas day as the league intends to prioritise its high-voltage clashes to be held in prime time slots.
The 44-match Australian tournament is set to get underway on December 7 with last year’s runner-up Brisbane Heat locking horns with Melbourne Stars at the Gabba. The knockout fixtures are scheduled to start on January 19, 2024, with Qualifier 1. The Eliminator and Qualifier 2 are scheduled on January 20 and 22. Meanwhile the final of the BBL 2023-24 will be staged on January 24.
