India Women’s Team: The Board of Cricket Council Of India announced Amol Muzumdar to fill the 10-month vacant seat of the head coach of the senior India Women’s Team. The BCCI, on Wednesday, appointed the domestic stalwart-turned-coach- Amol Muzudar as the head coach of the India Women’s team.

After interviewing the shortlisted candidates for the position, the board’s Cricket Advisory Committee, which was comprised of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, unanimously recommended Muzumdar to take over. The position has been empty since Ramesh Powar had to depart in December of last year as a result of an internal BCCI restructuring.

Since then, Nooshin Al Khadeer and Hrishikesh Kanitkar have taken on interim head coach roles. While Kanitkar managed the squad at the Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year and their gold-medal winning effort at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, Nooshin was in charge during the Indian women’s team’s July trip to Bangladesh.

Muzumdar on his appointment

Muzumdar shared his greeting and welcome for the appointment. He said, “I am deeply honored and privileged to be appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s Cricket Team. I thank the CAC and the BCCI for placing their trust in me and believing in my vision and the roadmap for Team India.”

This is a huge responsibility and I look forward to working closely with talented players and providing them with the right preparation and guidance to excel. The next two years are extremely important as two World Cups are scheduled in the period. Together with the coaching and support staff, we will look to tick every box and give ourselves the best chance to succeed,” he added.

Throughout the course of his 21-year stellar career, Muzumdar—a domestic titan—scored over 11,000 first-class runs in 171 matches, including 30 centuries. In addition, he played in 14 T20 matches and more than 100 List-A games.

Muzumdar played a key role in Mumbai’s eight Ranji titles throughout his 16 seasons with the domestic powerhouse, finishing as the second-highest run scorer in the Ranji Trophy.
