BCCI declines Virat Kohli's request to take over Test captaincy again. Massive details leaked!

The India National Cricket Team is all set to embark on a new chapter in Test cricket. After a horrible tour in Australia, they are now all set to play against England and it will also mark the beginning of the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship.

India faced a 3-1 thrashing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and it also eliminated them from the race to reach the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Not only this, it also exposed a lot of flaws in the Indian team, especially from the leadership perspective.

Rohit Sharma came under massive scanner, and there was a lot of criticism related to him being the skipper, and there were various calls to sack him as well. Also, it was reported that Jasprit Bumrah will replace him as Test captain.

Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period - Source close to BCCI

Amid all the fuss, as per the reports in the Times of India, it is learned that a senior player in the team demanded captaincy back. It is speculated that it was Virat Kohli who asked for the leadership again, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was completely against it.

The reports claimed that BCCI didn't entertain that idea as they wanted someone fresh to take over the onus to take the team forward. The source close to development talked about the same and said:

"A new WTC cycle is starting. The future and continuity have to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period.

"There can't be any stopgap solutions for such an important series. The last two Test series haven't been ideal for the team, and the England series is very crucial.”

The reports also claimed that there is no clarity if Rohit Sharma will lead the team or not. It is learned that BCCI sees Shubman Gill as the man who can take the team forward, as Jasprit Bumrah won't be given a leadership role due to workload management.
