BCCI officially announces India squad for England series, Shubman Gill named permanent Test captain
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday (24th May) announced the Indian team for the five-match Test series against England. Young batter Shubman Gill has been named as the permanent captain of the team in the longest format of the game.
India will start the new edition of the ICC World Test Championship with a five-match Test series against England. The series between the two teams is all set to kick start on 20th July at the Headingley in Leeds and will last over a period of two months.
Rishabh Pant has been named the vice-captain of the team, while Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair have been included in the team based on their performances in domestic cricket. Apart from them, pacer Arshdeep Singh also has received a maiden call-up in the Test setup.
India A skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran also has been added to the team for the five-match Test series against England. He will be the third opener in the team alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, who have retained their place in the team.
In the bowling department, Mohammed Shami, as mentioned by Ajit Agarkar, has been ruled out of the series due to fitness issues. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna are the pacers in the team along with Arshdeep Singh. Kuldeep Yadav is the only specialist spinner in the team.
BCCI also has named quite a few all-rounders in the team including Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, who has got a recall, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who set the stage on fire in Australia. Also, Dhruv Jurel is the second wicketkeeper in the team.
