BCCI reveals expenditure worth INR 18 Crores on Tokyo Olympics 2020: The BCCI officials, on Saturday, revealed the breakdown of non-cricketing expenditure of the cricket board in the past few years during the recently held in-person Apex Council Meeting. The breakdown of expenditure unveiled that the Indian cricket board spent a whopping INR 7 Crores for the promotion of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

The Apex Council Meeting chaired by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and attended by secretary Jay Shah, and treasurer Arun Dhumal among others put forth that the non-cricketing expenditure summing up to INR 22 Crores.

INR 18 Crore expenditure on Tokyo Olympics included Rs 7 Crores to the advertisement agency to promote the Tokyo Olympics, INR 98 lakh for Olympics campaign T-shirts and Rs 70 lakh for singer Mohit Chauhan, who composed and sang the Indian anthem “Lakshya tere saamne hai, jeet ke aana (The target is in front of you, return as a winner).”

To add to this, the BCCI also spent INR 4 Crores to award the medalists and Rs 5 Crores for the purchase of “PM Care” mementoes for the athletes.

Besides this, the BCCI also contributed INR 3.8 Crores worth of Oxygen Concentrators to aid the Indian hospitals during the peak of covid.

The Supreme Court nominated Lodha Committee also directs the BCCI to help and support other sports in the country.

“It is our responsibility to help other sports. All the members agreed to this expenditure,” said a BCCI official on condition of anonymity.

Increase in prize money for domestic tournaments: BCCI

The board in its first in-person meet after the covid-pandemic approved increase in the prize money for the domestic cricket tournaments. India’s premier domestic tournament, Ranji Trophy, winner used to get INR 2 Crores as a cash prize which will be increased. The increased prize is yet to be announced by the cricket board.

“The Apex Council has decided to give powers to office-bearers to decide on the revised prize money,” said a BCCI official. The decision follows the windfall of Rs 48,390 crore from the sale of IPL media rights.
