BCCI set to host 2025 Women’s World Cup, ICC FTP approved: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday successfully bid for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup at the ICC Annual Conference in Birmingham and bagged the hosting rights of the flagship event.

India will host the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup after a long hiatus of 12 years. The last Women’s World Cup was held in India back in 2013 when Australia thrashed West Indies in the final in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, ICC also distributed the hosting rights of its other important events to other countries. Bangladesh is set to host the 2024 T20 World Cup while England will host the tournament’s 2026 edition. Sri Lanka won the hosting rights of the inaugural T20 Champions Trophy 2027.

Notably, India hosted its last big ICC event in 2016 which was the T20 World Cup. ICC used to organise both men’s and women’s tournaments simultaneously, back then, however, tables have flipped now and with more viewers finding women’s game interesting, ICC has segregated the events. Now, both men’s and women’s tournaments are organised separately. The hosting rights, broadcasting deals – everything is done on individual levels.

The Indian officials were elated to bag the hosting rights of the 2025 Women’s World Cup and echoed that the board will do its every bit to promote the game right from the grassroots level.

“We were keen on hosting the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 and we are glad we have won the hosting rights for this marquee clash on the women’s calendar,” BCCI president Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying in an ICC release.

“The sport has undergone tremendous transformation since then. The popularity of women’s cricket is rapidly rising, and this is a step in the right direction. The BCCI will work closely with the ICC and fulfil all the requirements.” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said: “We are taking several steps to raise the profile of the sport right from the grassroots level and hosting the World Cup will further boost the popularity of the sport in the country.

ICC reportedly also approved the Future Tour Programme (FTP) for its next cycle in the annual meeting held in Birmingham. As per the reports, the fixtures have been confirmed by the governing cricketing body and will be revealed in the coming few days.

India is reported to play 38 test matches in its next FTP which will run from 2023-2027.
