BCCI Proposes to Shift WPL'24 to Diwali Window to Create Gap with IPL

The BCCI is pondering over the thought of shifting the WPL around Diwali to create a gap between IPL. The Women Indian Premier League commenced in 2023.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India recently inaugurated the Women?s Premier League (WPL). The tournament comprised Women cricketers from overseas and India. The domestic cricket league is an incredible platform for cricketers to showcase their skills and talents and ultimately get the opportunity for the big stage, the Indian Cricket Team.

The Women's Premier League (WPL) completed its first edition, as Mumbai Indians grabbed the spot of Winners after defeating Delhi Capitals. The Indian Women?s Cricket Team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, also the captain of Mumbai Indians lifted the trophy for her team.
The tournament was held in March and completed its tenure with 22 matches and five teams. The teams belong to five cities and states of India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah on Shifting WPL
WPL did not see many gaps with the IPL. Hence, BCCI is considering pushing the slot of the tournament near the festivities of Diwali. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is convinced that there is a separate audience of the WPL and that the tournament will be a greater success in the upcoming years.
"We are mulling the possibility of scheduling the WPL, in the home and away format, in the Diwali window; not two seasons in a year but just a different time window,"

The League witnessed the popular IPL franchises, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore take active participation in the tournament with their respective team owners and management.

Jay Shah highlighted the TVR of the most popular match of the tournament, RCB vs MI and talked about the prospects of the tournament. He spoke to the media:

The games were played in the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. The tournament saw massive success in Women?s cricket. Women were given free entry to the stadiums to boost the popularity of Women?s cricket and the WPL tournament.
