BCCI to announce new India Test captain and squad for England Tests on this date

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce the new captain and squad for the England Tests next week. The team will be locking horns with Three Lions in the five-match Test, which will kick start the ICC World Test Championship. 

The reports in Dainik Jagran claimed that BCCI will be hosting a press conference to announce the Test captain and also during the same day that the Ajit Agarkar-led committee will meet in Mumbai on the same day to pick the squad for the England series. 

The reports added that Shubman Gill is all set to be announced as Test captain. The young batter is seen as the future of Indian cricket, and the kind of performances that he has displayed makes him one of the best choices. 

Shubman Gill was given the nod ahead of Jasprit Bumrah as the Test captain because of the fast bowler's workload management. Originally, the pacer was supposed to lead the team, but his injury-prone nature put the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) under doubt.

The reports claimed that Shubman Gill has already had some conversations with a few members of the Indian team management. He has discussed about the team's strategy and is keen to take the team forward. He notably is the vice-captain of the team in the ODIs as well as the T20Is

Shubman Gill's first assignment as a Test captain will be an uphill task for him. India will be locking horns with England National Cricket Team in the five-match Test series. England tours are also considered tough and Gill will need to give his best with the bat as well as captain. 

It is also learned that Rishabh Pant will be the vice-captain of the team in the format. This is because BCCI believes that he is best suited for the role, especially the kind of performances that he has delivered in Tests outside India.
