BCCI to play a friendly match before the Annual General Meeting on Thursday.
BCCI AGM: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to play a friendly match before the 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday. The match will be held between the BCCI officials and the state association officials.
The newly build Motera Stadium, Ahmedabad is scheduled to host the friendly encounter and has a seating capacity of over 1,00,000 spectators. One side will be led by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly while the other will be led by BCCI secretory Jay Shah.
According to the reports, some of the retired cricketers will take part in a friendly encounter. The head of Hyderabad Cricket Association, Mohammad Azharuddin, former Indian cricketer Brijesh Patel and ex-Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah will also be part of the game.
AGM will decide the number of new Teams:
The scheduled 89th BCCI AGM will be held to decide the heated issue of expansion of the Indian Premier League.
According to the officials of BCCI, almost every member is in favor of expansion as this will give more opportunities to the Indian talents. We have a lot of young guns seating and this will be a perfect opportunity for them.
“There are a lot of things to discuss in the most awaited AGM and most of the stakeholders feel that with IPL being held in April, there is very little time for a mega auction and to have a uniform retention policy,” a BCCI official.
“There are a lot of aspects to take into consideration. You have to give tenders and keep the bidding game ready. In case you have two teams winning bids in late January or early February, they will need to be given enough time for auctions which can then be held only in March. That leaves a new team with little time to plan.”
