ICC Player of the Month: Bhuvneshwar Kumar bags the ICC Player of the Month Award.
ICC Player of the Month: Indian speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar on Tuesday was announced as the winner of the ICC Player of the Month for his splendid performance in the white ball leg against England in the month of March.
Ace tweaker Rashid Khan and Zimbabwe batsman Sean Williams were also nominated for the award in the Men’s category.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) started this initiative in January 2021 to appreciate the efforts put by the players every month. This is the third award and Indian players have bagged all of them. Earlier the award was won by Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin.
The pacer scalped six wickets in the three ODIs at an economy of 4.65 and took four wickets in the five T20Is against England.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar thanked everyone who supported him through all his lean patch and injury days.
“After what seemed like a really long and painful gap, I was delighted to be playing for India again. I used the time away to work on my fitness and skill and I am happy to be back taking wickets for my country,” Bhuvneshwar said in an ICC release.
“I would like to thank each and every person who helped me in this journey starting from my family and friends and my teammates. Also, a special thank you to the ICC voting academy and all the fans who voted for me and made me the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March.”
In Women’s Cricket, South African Lizelle Lee won the Monthly award leaving behind the likes of Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Punam Raut.
Lizelle Lee in the limited-overs series against Indian women’s performed brilliantly. In the Four ODIs, she smacked a ton and two half-centuries. With her sublime performance, she moved up to number 1 in the ODI’s ranking for batters.
