CA appoints Andrew McDonald as Australia men’s full-time coach: In a massive development, Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of former Victoria all-rounder Andrew McDonald as Australia’s men’s cricket team coach. McDonald has signed a full time four years contract with Cricket Australia for all three formats of cricket.

Andrew McDonald will take over Justin Langer, who resigned from his position in early February. Notably, McDonald had been serving as an interim coach for Australia and has taken his team to a historic victory against Pakistan in the subcontinent.

“Andrew has already shown he is an outstanding Head Coach and the vision he outlined for the role during the appointment process was both impressive and exciting, making him our clear choice,” CA chief Nick Hockley said.

He further added that both the skippers (Aaron Finch and Pat Cummins) are happy with the way Andrew McDonald has coached so far.

“We are proud of the way the team played and the respect shown throughout the tour of Pakistan under the leadership of Andrew, Pat [Cummins] and Aaron [Finch] and really pleased Andrew is taking on the role permanently.”

During Justin Langer’s stint as the head coach, Andrew McDonald worked as an assistant coach along with a role of bowling mentor for Cricket Australia.

Besides his limited role in the Aussie men’s side, McDonald also possesses extensive coaching experience, having coached Victoria and Melbourne Renegades. He has successfully led his teams to title victories in both domestics and BBL.

Andrew McDonald has also given his services to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the past.

Following his appointment as Australia’s full-time coach, Andrew McDonald said he is honoured and wants to work on the growth of the team.

“My plan is to build on the growth, depth and experience of the squad while working collectively with the group and across the game,” he said.

“There are many challenges in the short-term which I know excites the leadership group, the players and the staff. I’d also like to thank my family for their support.”
