Chelsea make first contact with Julian Nagelsmann: It has been over two weeks since Chelsea sacked their former manager, Graham Potter. It was earlier said that they would hire a new permanent manager immediately, but the board members later decided to not rush the decision, and thus they appointed one of their legends and former boss Frank Lampard as the interim manager till the end of the season.
Graham Potter had joined Chelsea on September 8, 2022, from Brighton and Hove Albion after the sudden sacking of Thomas Tuchel. Being an able coach with prior experience in the Premier League, Potter was expected to do well with the brilliant Chelsea squad. Unfortunately, he did not live up to the expectations, and the Blues did horribly this season in all tournaments despite making a number of great signings. Thus, his sacking was imminent.
After Potter was sacked, Julian Nagelsmann, who was sacked suddenly by Bayern Munich about two weeks before Chelsea let go of Potter, emerged as one of the top contenders to replace him. Nagelsmann did brilliantly with Bayern Munich and with RB Leipzig before that, and he is highly regarded as one of the best managers in the world currently. Thus, he could be the perfect man for the Chelsea gig.
Chelsea search for new manager continues as they contact Julian Nagelsmann
According to The Times, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, met Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday to discuss their project and plans.
However, Julian Nagelsmann is not the only manager that is on Chelsea’s shortlist. The board members have already talked with former FC Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique before appointing Lampard as their interim coach. Moreover, it is being said that former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, Napoli’s Luciano Spalletti, and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim are also on Chelsea’s radar.
Luis Enrique is said to be Chelsea’s second choice. He is also a great manager and he has the experience of transforming young teams completely – which is something that Chelsea are in dire need of right now. However, he has a habit of wanting complete freedom over teams and the Chelsea board will definitely have a problem with that.
That is exactly why Julian Nagelsmann will be the best fit for the job right now. It is being expected that he might soon be appointed by the English team. Moreover, the hunger to prove himself makes Nagelsmann a very dangerous man in the world of football right now and any team would love this fire.
