Cheteshwar Pujara to play for Sussex in County Championship 2022: Chetewshar Pujara, who is widely reckoned as team India’s modern-day wall, will be seen playing for Sussex County Cricket Club in the upcoming English County Championship 2022. The Indian cricketer has replaced Australian Travis Head, confirmed Sussex on Thursday.
Pujara, who has played 95 test matches for team India, will compete in both First Class and List A matches for Sussex. He will be available for the majority of the English summer as he doesn’t have any domestic or international commitments to fulfil.
It’s noteworthy that Cheteshwar Pujara has previously played for Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire in the County Championship.
Travis Head, the Aussie batter, had requested Sussex to release him from his contract due to packed international commitments and he and his wife are expecting their first child. The County Club agreed and subsequently signed Pujara as his replacement.
The County Championship 2022 will begin on April 7 while the season continues until September. Sussex will play its first match on April 14 against Derbyshire.
Following the development, Pujara shared his excitement to join Sussex and said, “I am excited and honoured to be a part of the historic Sussex County Cricket Club for the upcoming season. I do look forward to joining up with the Sussex family soon and be a part of its rich cricketing history. Over the years I have always enjoyed my time in the UK playing county cricket, so eagerly looking forward to the new stint and hope to contribute to the club’s success.”

It’s important to note that Pujara is not named in the India test squad playing against Sri Lanka in the ongoing two matches series. His domestic side Saurashtra is also derailed from the knockouts of the Ranji Trophy. Moreover, the batter is also without an IPL contract, which means he is completely free for the entire summer to play County Championship.
Meanwhile, Pujara also expressed his excitement through a tweet to join Sussex in the upcoming season of the Championship.
“Excited to join the Sussex family and looking forward to contributing to the Club’s success this county season,” he tweeted.
