Cricket West Indies (CWI) is likely to provide a memorable farewell game to their superstar cricketer Chris Gayle in his hometown. The 42-years old cricketer during the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2021 mentioned his plans to bid adieu to international cricket.

He said that he would love to play his last international match in front of his home crowd in Jamaica and happily draw curtains to his glorious cricketing career.

CWI is clearly looking forward to giving Gayle a memorable outing in one of the coming shortest format series at home.

“We would like to. It is at the idea level. No decision on timing or format has been made,” Ricky Skerritt, the president of the Caribbean board.

Johnny Grave, the CWI CEO, hinted that the farewell match could possibly be during the upcoming home T20I series against Ireland.

“We’re going to play three ODIs against Ireland in the second week of January and then one T20 at Sabina Park and I think that would, hopefully, if fans are allowed into Sabina Park a good opportunity for us to say farewell to Chris at his home ground,” Grave told a radio station recently.

He further clarified that still no official announcements are made and the officials are yet to take that decision.

“Media has been misinterpreting a simple comment made by the CEO,” the CWI chief said.

Christopher Henry Gayle, the flamboyant cricketer of the white ball fixtures has featured in 301 ODIs, 79 T20Is and 103 Test matches. In the career spanning 22 years, Gayle amassed a massive 19593 runs in all three international formats. He has 42 tons against his name along with 105 half-centuries.

Moreover, his records in franchise cricket are unbelievable. He is nothing short of a legend in the T20s. He holds the gigantic record of 22 hundred in the T20s after featuring in 453 matches.

After West Indies’s last match at the T20 World Cup 2021, Gayle said that he is partially retired and wants to play his one last game in Jamaica if the West Indies cricket board allows him.

“I didn’t announce any retirement but if they actually give me one game in Jamaica to go in front of my home crowd, then I can say ‘hey guys, thank you so much,” said the West Indian batting legend.
