Vivo IPL 2021: Complete Details on how and When the Vivo IPL 2021 can be resumed by the BCCI.
Vivo IPL 2021: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on 3rd May announced that the elite Indian competition will not go ahead due to the rising covid cases inside the bio-bubbles of the various franchises. Season 14 of the Vivo IPL 2021 was indefinitely suspended with immediate effects.
Following the suspension of the T20 league, there has been a lot of buzzes around when and where the remaining 31 games of the Vivo IPL 2021 can happen. How BCCI is going to tackle this situation.
Here in this article, we will take you through all the possible opportunities left with the BCCI to conduct the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021.
Possible windows available for the Vivo IPL 2021:
September: Earlier, it was thought that the BCCI could possibly host the remaining games of the Vivo IPL 2021, however, it cannot happen. India will host New Zealand for the T20Is leg and conducting the IPL will disturb the international fixtures of the country.
November: The most probable option left with the Indian board is the late November window. All the teams will be playing the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and BCCI may organise and reschedule the remaining games there.
The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled from October 18 to November 15. After the completion of the marquee ICC event, IPL 2021 remaining 31 games can be scheduled.
Possible Venues left with BCCI:
Multiple Cricket boards have reached out to the BCCI to host the remaining games of the Vivo IPl. However, if the sources are to be believed, England, Sri Lanka and India as the venue for rescheduling the IPL games are already ruled out.
Two options which are in front of the board are Australia and UAE.
UAE: The Emirates Cricket Board hosted the last season’s IPL successfully and it is already a tested venue. The three venues Emirates offers have good facilities and can produce a Bio-Secure Environment for the players.
If the BCCI opts to conduct the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE, then there are chances that the IPL can also be rescheduled in UAE. Though confirmation from the BCCI is awaited.
Australia: There are two possibilities within Australia as the venue of the IPL.
If the Australian government provides relaxation in its policies in the four months time, BCCI might plan to host the IPL in Australia. If this happens, Australia will host the elite T20 competition for the first time. This is only possible after confirmation from the Australian government.
The other possible thing that can happen, is to swap the ICC T20 World Cups with Australia. India is scheduled to host the 2021’s ICC T20 World Cup while Australia will host the 2022’s T20 World Cup. So, if the BCCI manages to bring the Australian government and Cricket Australia on the same page to host the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and let India host the next year’s world cup then there might be some possibilities that the IPL can be resumed.
