CSK vs GT: The eight match of the 2024 Indian Premier League took place between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and 2022 IPL winners Gujarat Titans at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai. It was a repeat of last year’s final and this time around, the Men in Yellow turned this match into a one sided affair as CSK posted a mammoth total of 206 runs on the board and a target of 207 runs proved to be too much for the Gujarat batting unit as they were restricted to 143-8 in their 20 overs. A win against Gujarat means that CSK have retained their position at the top of the table and they remain undefeated in two games.
After the dismissal of Chennai Super Kings’ star opener batsman Devon Conway from IPL 2024, everyone felt that Chennai’s opening batting would become weak, but Rachin Ravindra, playing in his place, did not let CSK feel his absence. Rachin displayed some explosive batting in his second match today against Gujarat Titans. He played an inning of 46 in 20 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes.
Rachin Ravindra and captain Gaikwad took full advantage of the powerplay. There was a partnership of 62 runs between the two for the first wicket. Gaikwad played an inning of 46 runs. After the dismissal of both the openers, Gujarat Titans got a sigh of relief for a moment but then Shivam Dube increased the problems of GT even more. Shivam Dube hit a total of five sixes due to his powerful power. Dube played an inning of 51 runs in just 23 balls.
Sameer Rizvi, who came to bat in the last overs, hit two sixes to Rashid Khan. He played a short but impactful innings of 14 runs in just six balls. Chennai team scored 206 runs in total 20 overs.
The Gujarat Titans needed to get off to a really good start if they wanted to have any hopes of chasing down this total of 207 runs and the opening duo of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill did get the Titans off to a good start and both of them were looking in good touch before the Gujarat skipper Gill got dismissed by Deepak Chahar in the third over which changed the complexion of the game.
Deepak Chahar continued the assault as he dismissed Saha in his next over and his dismissal led to the required rate climbing at an alarming rate and the middle order fumbled as the target proved to be a huge ask for the Gujarat batting unit.
The duo of David Miller and Sai Sudharsan tried to stedy the ship for the visitors but they weren’t able to cope up with the rising required run rate and Sudharsan was dismissed for 37 runs in 31 balls while David Miller wasn’t able to do much as well. Eventually, GT were restricted to 143-8 and lost the match by 63 runs.
