CSK vs GT: CSK Slays GT by 83 Runs; Check the Updated TATA IPL Points Table 2025
CSK vs GT, Match no. 67: In a stunning end to their TATA IPL 2025 campaign, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) delivered a crushing blow to Gujarat Titans (GT), defeating them by a mammoth 83 runs in Ahmedabad.
Riding on explosive knocks from their young guns and a disciplined bowling performance, CSK dismantled GT in all departments, handing them their biggest defeat in IPL history. Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, CSK finished their season on a high, while GT’s loss has left their top-two hopes hanging by a thread.
Batting first, CSK piled up a towering 230 for 5, their highest total of the season. The fireworks began early when 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre hammered Arshad Khan for 28 runs in a single over, setting the tone for an all-out assault. Mhatre scored a quickfire 34 off 17 before falling to Prasidh Krishna.
Local hero Urvil Patel kept the charge going with a blistering 37 off 19, attacking pace and spin alike. Devon Conway played the anchor role, crafting a composed 52 off 35 before falling to Rashid Khan. But it was Dewald Brevis who stole the show, smashing a 19-ball fifty and finishing with 57 off 23 deliveries, guiding CSK to a formidable total.
Gujarat Titans’ response never really got going. Their in-form captain fell early, followed by a struggling Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford, all within the powerplay. The middle-order offered little resistance as CSK’s bowlers hunted in a pack. Ravindra Jadeja, Noor Ahmad, and Kamboj all chipped in with timely wickets, breaking the back of GT’s chase.
With pressure mounting and wickets tumbling, GT folded tamely, falling short by 83 runs, their heaviest defeat ever in the IPL.
This dominant win by CSK also saw some record-breaking moments. The 83-run margin is now the biggest loss in GT’s IPL history, surpassing their 63-run defeat against CSK in Chennai last season.
Brevis’ 57 off 23 was one of the most explosive cameos this season, and Noor Ahmad became the highest wicket-taker for CSK in IPL 2025 with 24 wickets, only behind legends like Bravo and Tahir in franchise history. It was also the first time GT lost back-to-back games this season.
With this result, the playoff race has become spicier. GT have already qualified, but their defeat could cost them a spot in Qualifier 1. The winner of the upcoming PBKS vs MI clash will book their place in the top two. If that game is washed out, GT will remain in the top two and RCB can still join them if they beat LSG. But if RCB lose, PBKS sneaks in. All eyes are now on those final games to decide the Qualifier 1 slots.
